The IACC Texas blog recently caught up with Elizabeth Corsetti (below), owner of Corsetti Imports, a Houston-based company that imports boutique fashions from Italy, including women’s and men’s clothing, fine leather purses, shoes, and accessories.
Born to an Italian father and a Venezuelan mother, Elizabeth grew up traveling the world with her jet-setting family, whose oil and gas business took them across the globe throughout her childhood and teen years, including a year of school in Rome, her father’s home city.
In 2009 she moved to Austin, Texas to take a position as a marketing director for a major corporation.
But her passion for Italian fashion proved to be too strong and she opened her importing company in 2010 in Austin after her work as a consultant for retail boutiques in Austin, Miami, and New Orleans had become the focus of her evolving career.
She moved to Houston in 2014 drawn by the cosmopolitan fashion scene here.
“People are so interested in major brand names,” she told us, “that they don’t realize that there are so many small designers who are working out of small studios in Italy. Most of the [high-end] brand name products that you find in top stores are manufactured in China. Everything that I import is handmade by individual fashion designers who create lines for the big name brands as well but also sell directly” to importers like her.
“You can tell the difference in the quality of leather and especially in the quality of the dyes that are used.”
