Chu Okoli, a Houston-based artist headed to Florence to exhibit his works

The Italy-America Chamber of Commerce happy hours are always special events, a great place to network and to meet members of the Houston business community. The host venues are always great: Restaurants, wine bars, and cafés owned by chamber members.

But for our August happy hour (September 26), we will be heading to the Silver Street Studios in Houston’s arts district (just west of downtown) to experience the works of Houston-based and internally acclaimed artist Chu Okoli (above).

Okoli will be heading shortly to Italy to exhibit his works in the Florence Biennale and take part in an arts tour organized by one of his patrons, the Bohorquez Hoefker law firm, one of the chamber’s newest members.

This is the second time that he’s been invited to participate in the prestigious Florence Biennale art exhibition and Bohorquez Hoefker is organizing a tour around the show (stay tuned for details).

Okoli’s uses canvas and oil paint to create textured images (like the one above). The works are as compelling as they are pleasing to the eye and the artist is an engaging speaker and host who loves to share his works-in-progress, including the paintings he plans to present in Florence.

This is a happy hour not to miss! We hope to see you there.

From the artist’s website:

Chu Okoli is a very passionate and committed artist whose works express volumes about his remarkable artistic journey and inspiring life story. He began creating art early as a child. Initially inspired by his artist mother, he went on to study Fine Art in College and quickly developed into a prolific accomplished artist.

He’s an artist whose unique style blends his drive for emotive forms with the sublime elements of artistic experimentation. With the avid use of fluid, soothing and yet profound color palette, he has developed a new approach in painting which involves the transformational use of curls, motion and palpable concentric circles. Nurturing an avid and explorative mind, his hands always dance to the constant compelling rhythm of creativity that mind produces.

Chu has exhibited in many International art fairs, art galleries and art shows around the world including: Florence International Contemporary Art Biennale, the Art Expo New York, the Project Row Houses and the Bayou City Art Festival both in Houston, the PAFF Los Angeles and others. He has been featured on Houston CBS TV Channel 11; Houston KPFT FM 90.1 Radio; Houston Fox TV Channel 26; The Houston Chronicle Newspaper, Princeton Packet Newspaper in New Jersey and The Daily Press Newspaper in Victorville California. Also he’s done interviews for Egyptian and Brazilian media outlets. His works are both in private and public collections.

He recently represented the United States at the International Contemporary Art Biennale (Florence Biennale) in Florence Italy in October of 2015. He won an International Painting Award at the event.
