Congratulations to Danny Steiner (above, center), winner of the “Best Sommelier in Houston” award!
“Danny Steiner, who’s part of the wine team at The Post Oak Hotel,” wrote Houston Chronicle wine writer Dale Robertson on Monday, “won the first ‘Houston’s Best Sommelier’ competition held in conjunction with the Taste of Italy event this weekend at the Hilton Post Oak.”
“The 26-year-old Steiner, a graduate of Ohio State University, has been in the city for only two years, having originally come down to work for Camerata to begin his pursuit of Master Sommelier status. His first prize paid $1,200 toward future wine education.”
“The two runners-up, Caracol sommelier Andres Blanco, and Morgan Gray, a floor sommelier at Pappas Bros. Steakhouse, received $300 apiece. They were among 10 contestants who were tested on wine theory, tasting and table service, fashioned after the grueling Master Sommelier exam.”
