The Italy-America Chamber of Commerce Texas is pleased to welcome its newest member: La Argentina Gelato and Coffee!
With two Houston locations — one in Katy opened in 2016, the other in West Oaks opened earlier this year — husband-and-wife team Florencia Mansilla and Olen Gutierrez have swiftly established their La Argentina brand of artisanal gelato as one of Houston’s favorite Italian-style ice creams.
Originally from Venezuela, Florencia points to her family’s Italian heritage as one of the inspirations for its legacy as a leading family of ice cream there with its Heladerias La Argentina brand — one of the country’s most popular and beloved.
In 2012, she and her husband moved to Houston where he opened a successful roofing and construction business. Because of the challenges associated with the restaurant business, the couple opted not to take out a loan but rather save up the money it needed to launch their first location, which opened in Katy in 2016.
Their hard work and perseverance paid off: With their creamery in place (all of its ice creams are still produced there), it didn’t take long for the popular Katy ice cream shop and coffee bar to expand to Houston’s upscale West Oaks neighborhood. The new spot launched in January of this year.
Not only do both locations offer delicious Italian-style homemade and hand-crafted ice creams produced using the family’s secret recipe (always made from scratch and never from a mix), they also serve classic Italian- and south American-style coffees, sandwiches, a light lunch menu featuring classic Argentina Empañadas, as well as a wide range of desserts, including gluten-free options.
We couldn’t be more thrilled to welcome Florencia and Olen to the IACC Texas family!
We’ve also been told that they are planning to launch a beer and wine program soon.
